What is fished in Holbox Island?
In the Island of Holbox you could catch tarpon, snook, crappie, barracuda, snapper, jacks and occasionally permit and bonefish among many others. Off the north shore, migratory giant tarpon run the length of the island when in season; in fact, the Holbox fishery is considered to be one of the most spectacular in the world for trophy silver kings. To the south there are miles of lagoons flourishing with juvenile or baby tarpon and snook

To get to Holbox Island you have to go from Nuevo Xcan Station to the Mayan village of Chiquila which is 79 km away (1h 14 min) and from there take a ferry to Holbox which takes approximately 30 minutes. Holbox Island, specifically the Cabo Catoche lighthouse located there marks the meeting of the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea, a combination of tourmaline and topaz colors.
